Get to know the Foundation's new Executive Director

As the new Executive Director for Delta Dental of Colorado Foundation, Allison Cusick will be working with the Board of Directors and staff to move the Foundation into its next chapter. She aims to continue being strategically innovative to identify future opportunities like recent projects including:

  • The Cavities Get Around “Truth Behind the Label” spot was named to the Colorado 50 by the Ad Club of Colorado.
  • CO MDI grantees have completed more than 16,000 patient visits.
  • Over $220,000 in funding for Innovation Grants announced.

You can read our announcement here. Below you’ll find some insight to the personality of our new leader.

What are you most excited about right now?
I’m most excited about the opportunity to lead the Foundation into its next chapter. We have incredibly passionate and dedicated Board of Directors and staff and I feel so fortunate that I get to be a part of this organization. Children’s oral health is a critical part of overall health. I’m excited to work with communities and partners around the state.

What do you do for fun?
I grew up on a family farm outside of Portland, Oregon. We raised a variety of fruits and vegetables including strawberries, blueberries and blackberries. I am a farm girl at heart and love to go on long drives that take me out of the city and into the country.

What cause are you passionate about?
I’m incredibly passionate about kids and their health. If children aren’t healthy, they aren’t going to reach their full potential.

There are so many children suffering from cavities and it’s almost 100% preventable. Our Foundation’s mission is to eradicate tooth decay in young children. There is still much work to be done to spread this important message. This requires a complex, multi-faceted approach to ensuring that all children had access to oral health care close to their home. I’m proud to be part of it.

How do you spend your days?
Outside of work, my family is my priority. Every night at dinner we answer three questions: What was a good part of your day? What was a bad part of your day? What is your goal for tomorrow?

What’s the most interesting thing you’ve learned recently?
My son lost his second tooth recently and the tooth fairy came that night. He told me that every child has his/her own tooth fairy because there is so much work to do. I love the imagination and magic that comes with childhood! I wish we didn’t lose that magic in adulthood.
