Strange Animal Teeth

July 9, 2013 By Social Media Collaborative

Do you think human teeth look strange? Wait until you see these weird and wacky teeth from our animal friends.

Dolphins’ Teeth Grow Like Trees: Ever want to guess the age of a dolphin? Look at his teeth. Scientists say dolphins have growth rings, similar to those in trees. And no matter how old they are, dolphins always look like they’re smiling!

Promacthoteuthis sulcusPromacthoteuthis sulcus: This strange squid has human-looking teeth. But these squid’s teeth are actually folded lips that cover up a sharp beak. Luckily, you won’t run into one of these creatures on a casual swim in the ocean. They are many hundreds of feet under the surface in their own toothy world.

Dragonfish

Dragonfish: This creepy creature looks like it should be something out of a horror movie with its strange teeth that even grow out of its tongue! But in reality, the dragonfish is no bigger than half a foot, lives in complete darkness and is almost totally blind.

Piranha

Piranha: These fish have triangle teeth that allow them to rip apart their prey quickly, leaving nothing left but bones. They can attach larger animals in vicious packs.  Theodore Roosevelt once saw a cow ripped to shreds by piranhas in seconds.

Venomous Snakes: Beware of these creatures that have hollow teeth. A poison gland shoots poison into the snake’s fangs at the point of attack, allowing the creature to kill its prey. The smaller teeth on the bottom of the snake’s jaws allow it to hold onto its victims.
