Animal aficionados unite! Wednesday, April 8, is National Zoo Lovers Day. Celebrate your animal-loving instincts by visiting Colorado’s wonderful zoos and sanctuaries.
Here are a few of our favorite places (and animals):
Seal the deal at Denver Zoo.
This animal lover’s paradise is one of the most popular zoos in the United States. Head to the Northern Shores exhibit to see the playful harbor seals. Although they have sharp teeth, harbor seals swallow their food whole.
Cheyenne Mountain Zoo is 1 in a mil-lion.
Visit Colorado Springs to see African and mountain lions up-close and personal. The self-proclaimed King of Jungle has teeth fit for any royal meal. Lions can open their jaws to up 10½ centimeters wide, giving them one of the animal kingdom’s biggest bites.
See the original wolf pack at The Wild Animal Sanctuary.
Come meet the whole pack at this Keenesburg-based sanctuary. The sanctuary currently houses 26 wolves. Wolves have 42 highly specialized teeth, while adult humans only have 32.
Get out there and go wild this Zoo Lovers Day! What are your favorite animal hot spots?
