One of the things I love about working for Delta Dental of Colorado is that, because we are a nonprofit company, we are encouraged to be involved in different charitable events throughout the state. Recently, I had the privilege of volunteering with the Colorado Mission of Mercy (COMOM) at their 10th annual dental on June 17 and 18 in, appropriately selected, Brush, Colorado.
COMOM’s mission is to provide quality dental services, at no cost, to individuals of all ages who cannot afford and access dental care; eliminating dental pain, promoting oral health, creating smiles, and providing oral health education. More than 200 dentists, hygienists, and others from across the state volunteered their time and talents to treat almost 1,000 patients over the two-day clinic. Patients traveled from all across Colorado and the surrounding states, seeking treatment, some waiting overnight just to be seen. Treatments provided included:
- Cleanings
- Extractions
- Restorations
- Crowns
- Denture services
- Pharmacy services
- Oral health education
Other Delta Dental of Colorado employees volunteered as well, including Mirella Chavez (community benefit coordinator), and Brooke Bodart, RDH (dental review director), Shawna Gardner (customer service), and Jacky Nevarez (group administration).
In addition, many of our Delta Dental providers volunteered their time. I’m so proud to be affiliated with dentists and hygienists who place such a high priority on giving back to the community. Thanks!
