Coloradans take their fitness seriously. So seriously that we’ve been considered the fittest state for more than a decade. Your out-of-town friends should seriously be jealous.
…maybe jealous enough to make the trek out to Colorado? With more than 300 days of sunshine a year, you can find a workout that’s uniquely Coloradan. Your out-of-state friends will have to visit! Try tempting them with:
1. Climbing Manitou Incline
Climbing stairs can burn 5 calories per a flight (12 steps). Now multiply that by 2,744 and you’ve got yourself a serious workout.
Open daily, hundreds of visitors run or hike Manitou Incline’s 2,000-foot ascent. Join the crowd and race them to the top.
2. Running Red Rocks
The landmark amphitheater is a concert venue by night, fitness haven by day. What is considered one of the best places for music is also a unique place to work up a sweat. Every morning, you can find fitness fanatics running up and down the venue’s bleachers.
Love working out with a group of people? Look into events such as Fitness on the Rocks and Yoga on the Rocks.
3. Taking on the Dunes
You know how hard it is to walk on sand. Now imagine how hard it is to hike on sand.
The Great Sand Dunes National Park offers visitors miles of sandy hills to hike and run. Make it your goal to summit Star Dune, the tallest dune. Children-at-heart can also try sandboarding and sand sledding.
4. Hiking the Rockies
Every hour you hike can burn more than 400 calories. And lucky for you, Colorado has hundreds of calorie-burning trails. Check out some of our favorite hikes around the state.
Remember: Good oral health relates to good overall health. Take care of your teeth and make sure your visiting friends bring their toothbrushes too!
