The Delta Dental of Colorado Foundation is working across Colorado to improve oral health by eradicating childhood tooth decay. To make good oral health a community priority, the foundation supports projects that achieve at least one of our 3 drivers of success:
- Improve access to evidence-based dental care.
- Increase the public’s awareness of and support for oral health.
- Secure decision makers’ buy-in to the importance of oral health.
Some projects include:
Cavity Free Kids training for early care and education teachers
Early childcare and education teachers across Colorado have access to the Cavity Free Kids training offered by Qualistar. This training includes a collection of activities that actively engage children in play-based learning that ensures young kids understand valuable oral health lessons. Teachers receive free oral health teaching materials and a certificate for professional development in Health.
Village of Healthy Smiles at the Children’s Museum of Denver
Children can visit the exhibit to interact with stations focused on oral health. They can play dentist and check out a cheeky monkey’s grin or schedule appointments. They learn what foods are better for teeth with weighted magnets. They can also use wooden tooth building blocks in the tooth fairy’s workshop.
Cavity Free at Three across Colorado
The Cavity Free at Three trains health professionals across Colorado to provide preventive oral health services for young kids and pregnant women. The goal is to increase access to care, especially for underserved populations most at risk for dental disease.
