At Delta Dental of Colorado (DDCO), giving back is more than a requirement of our nonprofit status, it’s an integral part of our culture. The employees at DDCO have overwhelmingly big hearts, and we’d like to celebrate the many ways that they give back through our Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR).
We encourage employees to find causes they are passionate about and serve as a volunteer on an ongoing basis. Our senior leadership team, including our CEO, leads by example by serving on multiple community boards and volunteering at nonprofit organizations has become a favorite team-building activity with several of our departments. In 2019, 56% of our employees participated in DDCO volunteer activities.
It’s important to create opportunities for all of our employees to get involved in giving back, even if it’s just within our building. A little friendly competition never hurts either. That’s why DDCO partnered with the Denver Public Schools Foundation to build “toothbrush houses” for 10 Title 1 elementary schools in the district.
Our partnership with Mile High United Way (MHUW) provides opportunities to do things like a backpack drive as the school year begins and assemble kits that our employees can give to those experiencing homelessness. In November, MHUW asked us to put together five Thanksgiving bags for their Bridging the Gap (BTG) program. Our employees came together and donated enough food to gift them 53 bags. MHUW said, “You all helped us exceed our goal for this year and have made the holidays so special for our BTG families.”
The other big way we partner with MHUW is through our employee giving drive, which kicks off in November. Employees can choose to give to MHUW or one of the many affiliated nonprofits through the convenience of payroll deductions. DDCO recognizes the importance of being able to give to a cause near to your heart. Starting in 2020, DDCO will match employee contributions up to $1,000 to nonprofit organizations serving the Colorado community.
By weaving our mission-building activities into our business priorities, we aim to do what’s right and work toward a healthier Colorado. We’re grateful for our employees and their commitment to the community both in their personal and professional lives.
