Father’s Day Craft with Recycled Toothbrushes and Baking Soda Paints

May 11, 2021 By Wyatt Dilling

This Father’s Day craft tutorial uses common household items like baking soda, paper, food coloring, and old toothbrushes to make a special card for Dad.

Grab supplies you already have in the craft cupboard for a Father’s Day card he won’t soon forget! This project uses recycled toothbrushes and paint made from baking soda to design a one-of-a-kind card for Dad’s special day.

HERE’S WHAT YOU’LL NEED:

Supplies:

  • Baking soda
  • Water
  • Food coloring
  • Cups
  • Old toothbrush(es)
  • Ribbon
  • Scissors
  • Heavyweight paper

STEPS:

  1. Place some baking soda into cups.
  2. Measure out an equal amount of water as baking soda into your measuring cup.
  3. Add food coloring to water and mix.
  4. Pour the colored water into one of the cups of baking soda.
  5. Mix thoroughly to ensure a smooth consistency that isn’t runny or thick.
  6. Repeat the above steps for additional colors.
  7. Cut out a fun shape on the heavyweight paper. For our example, we cut the shape of a tie!
  8. Use your recycled toothbrush to paint onto the heavyweight paper shape you just cut out.
  9. Fold in half and add a message for Dad on the front with a marker or pen.
