From Colorado Communities to a National Movement: Advancing a Healthy Smile for All

August 14, 2026 By Veronica Contreras de Raya

At Delta Dental of Colorado and the Delta Dental of Colorado Foundation, we share a vision: a healthy smile for all.

The newly released 2025 Delta Dental Community Impact Report highlights how Delta Dental companies and foundations are working together to improve oral and overall health in communities across the country. As the nation’s largest oral health philanthropist, Delta Dental has invested more than $2.4 billion over the past 16 years, reaching communities in all 50 states, Washington, D.C., and Puerto Rico. In 2025 alone, Delta Dental invested $131 million in community impact efforts and positively impacted 24 million lives.

Across the state, Delta Dental of Colorado continues to invest in programs and partnerships that connect people to the care and resources they need to thrive. Through a focus on preventive care, oral health education, coordinated support services, and community-based partnerships, these investments are helping remove barriers to care and create healthier futures for Colorado families. In 2025, Delta Dental of Colorado invested $4 million in initiatives that directly impacted communities across the state.

One example highlighted in the Community Impact Report is the Chaffee County Oral Health Program. Julie Nutter, Director of the Chaffee County Oral Health Program shared, “with support from the Delta Dental of Colorado Foundation, the Chaffee County Oral Health Program is expanding access to preventive care, education, and care coordination for families across rural Colorado. Through school-based services, prenatal support, well water testing, and an expanding navigation network, families gain access to safe water, dental care, and critical resources. Despite workforce and system challenges, this work proves that evidence-based prevention, strong collaborations, and meeting people where they are can transform health outcomes across our rural communities.” By addressing oral health alongside broader health and social needs, the program demonstrates the importance of a whole-person approach to community well-being.

This kind of work reflects a broader movement taking place across the Delta Dental system. From supporting children’s first dental visits and school-based prevention programs to improving access for older adults, veterans, and individuals with disabilities, Delta Dental organizations are creating pathways to better health at every stage of life. The Community Impact Report also highlights continued investments in workforce development, oral health education, research, innovation, and direct care services.

For Colorado, these efforts align closely with the Foundation’s commitment to strengthening communities and addressing health disparities through collaboration, innovation, and prevention. By working together, Delta Dental of Colorado and the Delta Dental of Colorado Foundation can amplify impact, leverage local expertise, and contribute to meaningful change both within our state and across the country.

“Creating a healthy smile for all requires more than providing access to care. It means investing in people, communities, and partnerships that address the root causes of oral health challenges,” said D.J. Close, executive director of Delta Dental of Colorado Foundation. “The 2025 Community Impact Report demonstrates what’s possible when local action is backed by a national commitment to improve oral and overall health. We’re proud of the progress being made in Colorado and honored to be part of a national company culture that is helping millions of people live healthier lives.”

As we celebrate the impact highlighted in this year’s report, we remain focused on the work ahead. Together with community partners, providers, advocates, and volunteers, we will continue building a future where people across the state, and the country, have the opportunity to achieve a healthy smile and a healthier life.
