No, this is not something from Star Trek. Toothpaste predicting weather change is a technology close to hitting the market today.
MIT Media Labs is working on a toothpaste dispenser that chooses a toothpaste flavor based on the forecasts. CNET says, “The prototype is currently hooked up to a small Linux computer that pulls forecasts, using custom software to compare previous and current temperatures and divvy up the flavors.” Currently, the cinnamon means it is going to be warm, mint means cold and blue stripes means rain. How much fun is that?
Now instead of peeling your eyes open in the morning and trying to catch the newscast for the weather, you can get you report from your toothpaste. The product is being developed under the name “Tastes Like Rain.” Several functionality items are still being hammered out, like how it can be scaled down to run off a low-cell battery.
