A child’s first loose tooth is a sign that your little toddler is growing up (*tear*). For many parents, this stepping stone is a bittersweet experience. For kids, this can be either exciting or scary. When my son lost his first tooth, he came running into our room holding onto his tooth like it was gold. I was amazed at his excitement, especially when I recall my first tooth loss experience: “I lost a body part” I cried to my mom as she tried to console me.
However your child reacts, it is important to make losing a tooth an enjoyable experience. This week, during American Education Week, make a leisurely afternoon educational by explaining tooth loss to your child. Sit them down and together make a fun “tooth-holder” for them to put their tooth in when they lose it. It will help ease your child into tooth loss and keep them entertained for an afternoon.
What you need:
– Large, empty matchbox
– Paper or felt
– Glitter and sequins to decorate
– Glue
– Scissors
– Cotton
Instructions:
1) Cut the paper so it will cover the outside of the matchbox.
2) Glue paper/felt on matchbox
3) Remove drawer of matchbox and decorate sides
4) Decorate all sides of matchbox
5) Replace drawer and let dry
6) Add cotton to the bottom to make a “pillow” for their teeth.
Do you have other ideas for a tooth-holder? Leave them in the comments.
