I know what you’re thinking: the Tooth Fairy at a soccer game…why in the world would she be there? But I have a logical explanation as to why I was at the Colorado Rapids game – you see, Delta Dental of Colorado Foundation hosted “Cavities Get Around” title night with the Rapids to bring awareness about the importance of baby teeth. Those who know the Tooth Fairy know I’ve got a thing for collecting those precious baby teeth, so how could I pass up an opportunity like this to share some helpful information with the community?
The Cavities Get Around campaign is my kind of gig. I flittered and fluttered around the stadium raising awareness that cavities can spread from baby teeth to adult teeth, especially when kids drink too many sugary beverages like juice. Sugar fuels the bacteria that cause cavities, which can be painful for little ones! The children of Colorado are suffering from this “silent epidemic”that can follow them into their adulthood! It’s time we put a stop to it. The good news is that it’s not hard to prevent cavities.
Where to begin?
- If your child already drinks juice, limit his or her consumption to meal times only. This will keep cavity-causing sugar off your child’s teeth for most of the day.
- Between meals and especially at bedtime, give your child “Solo Agua” (water only).
- Instill a good dental hygiene routine that also includes brushing daily.
Adopting healthier habits can do wonders for your child’s health and help give him or her a beautiful smile. Learn more at cavitiesgetaround.com, and join the conversation on social media by using the hashtag, #CavitiesGetAround.
Remember, a healthy smile can mean more than you think!
