Keeping kids entertained during the summer can be hard, especially when Netflix is more popular than going to the park. Summer breaks are also when kids gain the most weight, as inactivity and one too many sweet treats go unnoticed.
Here are 3 of our favorite healthy activities for kids that limit screen time and encourage activity:
1. Summer Camps
Summer camps are a great way to provide structure for your children during the day. Kids can interact with their friends (or make new ones), and often the camps focus on physical or educational elements, which can help prevent summer learning loss. Here is a guide to summer camps in the Denver area.
2. Family Hikes
With access to some of the most beautiful terrain in the country, we are lucky to call Colorado our home. The mountains and foothills offer many places to go hiking, with lots of access to kid-friendly trails. Hiking is a fun way to get in some exercise, which is good for your smile!
Here are our favorite kid-friendly trails:
• Three Sisters Park
• Enchanted Mesa at Chautauqua Park
• Castlewood Canyon
3. Day at the Museum
Museums are a mecca of learning and help children to take ownership of their learning and learn about new experiences. One of these museums is sure to make for a fun day this summer break:
• Children’s Museum of Denver
• Denver Museum of Nature and Science
• WOW! Children’s Museum
In addition to making time for these fun and healthy activities, summer break is also the perfect time to make a dentist appointment.
